Edinburgh is set to be hit by heavy rain and snow as temperatures plummet to close to freezing.

After a day of very changeable conditions and heavy rain, it will become cold overnight with a high chance of heavy snow before the morning commute.

A yellow weather warning for snow and ice has been put in place between 9pm today and 10am on Thursday.

The Met Office said that some roads and railways are likely to be affected with longer journey times likely.

They also warned against icy patches on roads, pavements and cycle paths, with risk of injury.
