Edinburgh, Midlothian and West Lothian to be hit by snow and rain as Met Office issues yellow weather warning

Parts of Edinburgh, Midlothian and West Lothian are set to be hit by snow and rain tomorrow, with the Met Office issuing a yellow weather warning.

The weather warning is in place from midnight tonight, Monday, January 26, until 5pm on Tuesday, January 27, and covers most of the south west of Scotland, including to the south of Edinburgh at Balerno and the Pentland Hills, Penicuik in Midlothian, and part of West Lothian, with the warning not currently covering the city of Edinburgh itself.

The Met Office said heavy rain will turn to snow over high ground which may lead to some travel and power disruption on Tuesday, adding that some roads and railways are likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services expected.

While, some interruption to power supplies and other services are deemed likely, spray and flooding on roads will probably make journey times longer, and flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely, according to the UK's national meteorological service.

The current Met Office forecast for Edinburgh shows light rain on Tuesday morning, with heavy rain in the afternoon and into the evening.

Winds will reach 19mph, with gusts of up to 49mph, and the temperature high of the day will be 4C, but feel more like between -1C and 2C due to the chilly winds.
