The Met Office said on their website: “An area of persistent and heavy rain will spread in from the east on Monday evening, lasting much of the night before clearing

to scattered showers by morning.

"20-30mm will fall quite widely across the area with some hills possibly catching 40mm or more before it clears. With the ground already saturated this likely to lead to flooding in a few areas.”

This warning comes after Edinburgh has seen some extremely wintry conditions lately, with residents being woken up in the early hours of Friday by a rare spell of thundersnow.
