Temperatures are expected to dip again towards the end of the week with snow forecast in the capital on Thursday morning.

Tomorrow, we can expect sunny spells but the temperature is set to drop to almost freezing and stay there for the majority of the day.

Through the night and into Thursday morning, snow is forecast so it looks like residents could be waking up to another wintry scene.

However, while temperatures will remain low throughout Thursday it looks like the snow will clear by the afternoon giving way to cloudy conditions.

Going into Friday, forecasters predict temperatures close to freezing with sunny spells.

A yellow warning for ice remained in place this morning, Tuesday, January 5, and the Met Office warned that if people had to venture outside, they should be extra careful as the icy conditions were dangerous.

Health Boards across the country reported being even more busy than usual after a New Year Bank Holiday on Monday.

The Scottish Ambulance Service said it was seeing higher demand than usual, while NHS 24 reported a record number of calls.

Several doctors and health chiefs urged people not to go outside if at all possible.

In cases where venturing out cannot be avoided, the NHS asked people to “walk like a penguin” to reduce the risk of falls.

"When the weather is icy, we see a sharp increase in the number of people attending the Emergency Departments with slip and trip injuries such as broken bones,” reads a campaign from NHS Tayside to “walk like a penguin”.
