Edinburgh weather: Rain set to lash Capital all afternoon as temperatures remain close to freezing

Those planning an afternoon walk on Tuesday should prepare to wrap up warm and bring an umbrella as rain can be expected throughout the afternoon right through until Wednesday morning.

Tuesday morning is set to be overcast with sunny intervals expected early on, however light rain at lunchtime is just the beginning of an afternoon downpour.

From 3pm onwards this afternoon there is a 50 per cent chance of rain which will remain in place for the rest of the day, with an 80 per cent chance of heavy rain around 7pm. Temperatures are expected to be a high of just 3C, dropping to 1C in the evening as the night closes in.

However, dry weather is expected on Wednesday with currently just a 10 per cent chance of rain for the entire day.

For the remainder of the week more rain can be expected throughout the day on Thursday with what looks to be a dry and bright but cold weekend ahead.
