Heavy downpours and sleet set to batter Edinburgh as weather warnings issued for some parts of region

Yellow weather warnings for wind and rain have been issued for the region as Edinburgh looks set to be battered by heavy rain all day.
The warnings, issued by experts at the Met Office, comes into place on Friday and will remain in place for the majority of the day.

Hide AdIn East Lothian, a warning for wind is in place from 8am to 8pm, covering the likes of Tranent and Dunbar.
To the west, a yellow 'be aware' warning has been issued for heavy rain and will be in operation from 6am to 9pm, covering the likes of Armadale and Shotts.
And although Edinburgh misses out on any weather warnings for now, it doesn't mean that it won't be hit by its fair share of extreme conditions.

Hide AdForecasters have warned that today (Thursday) will see prolonged periods of heavy rain and the possibility of sleet in the evening.
Rain is expected to fall until around mid-day, before brief pause in the downpours, with more heavy rain expected in the afternoon.
Into the evening and Met Office officials predict sleet could fall over the Capital at around 8pm.
On Friday, the outlook is even bleaker for Edinburgh, with wall-to-wall heavy rain forecast.
