The Scottish location that has recorded the coldest temperature so far this winter

The freezing temperature of -12.3C was recorded at Loch Glascarnoch, near Garve, south of Ullapool in Wester Ross on Tuesday night.

In the UK, the record lowest temperature is -27.2C, which was recorded in Braemar, Aberdeenshire, in 1895 and 1982 and at Altnaharra in the Highlands in 1995.

The coldest temperature this winter has come amid a cold snap that is affecting most parts of the country.

The Met Office has today issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice across the country from 3pm this afternoon.

The warning will last until 11.59pm tomorrow, Thursday January 7.

It will remain in place in the north east of Scotland until 12pm on Friday January 8.

People should be wary of the risks the ice poses with hospitals seeing a surge in cases of people slipping on the ice and hurting themselves in recent weeks.
