The Met Office has released a yellow weather warning for Scotland

The Met Office has warned of thunderstorms across Scotland from Thursday through to Saturday.

The West coast will be hit first around 4pm Thursday, with the storms moving East throughout the day and covering the whole of the country for Friday and into the early hours of Saturday morning, where it is thought to die down.

What the Met Office say to expect:

The Met Office have released a yellow weather warning for Scotland

-There is a chance that homes and business could flood and the potential of lightning strikes or strong winds causing damage.

-Potential cancellations of trains and bus services.

-There is a small chance of power cuts.

A spokesperson from the Met Office said: “Heavy showers and thunderstorms are likely to break out on Friday afternoon and evening.

“Many places will miss the storms, but where they do occur, torrential downpours could bring 30-50mm rain in an hour, with hail and lightning.

“The storms will slowly clear northeastwards on Friday night, perhaps not clearing northeast Scotland until Saturday morning.”

This weather warning comes after Edinburgh residents are set to enjoy highs of 23 degrees in the city on Wednesday.

The good recent weather has seen the public flood to beauty spots and open spaces to enjoy the heat, with the Meadows and Leith Links becoming popular meeting points.

This caused its own controversy as pictures and videos of increased litter and lack of social distancing hit the headlines, causing Edinburgh council leader Adam McVey to urge people to take more care.
