In our latest weekly planning round-up we look at plans for a new restaurant in a Hanover Street retail unit currently occupied by JD Sports, and a new cafe in Newhaven.
There are also plans to turn a large office block at Henderson Row into 65 apartments, a new food and beverage unit in the Old Town to accommodate a proposed aparthotel, and plans for a new mural in Southside to deter graffiti in the area.

5. Proposed new cafe
A Mr Yazaldes Afonso Nascimento has submitted plans to turn a retail unit here at 1 Western Harbour Midway into a new cafe. The proposed café with 20 covers will be limited to reheating food only, with no cooking on the premises. The application site comprises a ground floor retail unit within a new build Edinburgh flatted block/commercial parade. The proposal is for a change of use from a retail unit currently used as a property letting office, which also serves hot and cold drinks / sandwiches & cakes. The premises has been operating as such for over 15 years and the proposal is to change the use to a small café, providing hot and cold drinks and pre-prepared food, which will be reheated using microwaves / panini grill or similar equipment. There will be no cooking on the premises, and no installation of a commercial kitchen, flues, or ventilation extraction systems. The layout will include: a customer seating area; a service counter; a small preparation and reheating area; and toilet facilities. The new cafe would operate Mondays to Saturdays, 8am-10pm and Sundays 9am-9pm. The applicant said: "The proposed change of use is modest, sustainable, and compatible with the local character. It will support the local community with minimal environmental or amenity impact. Given the limited nature of food preparation, the absence of cooking facilities, and compatibility with local planning policies, we respectfully request that this application be approved.
