Paramedics and three fire engines were called to a block of flats in Elizabeth Drive, Boghall, at about 11:50pm on Tuesday night.

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman said their special operations response team was sent to the scene, and three people with “minor smoke inhalation” made their own way to hospital for treatment.

A spokesman for the fire service said they were called to a "fire within a property," thought to be on the first floor, and left the scene at about 2:15am. He said a fire investigation team returned to the scene on Wednesday.

Police confirmed they were also called to the fire and carried out follow-up inquiries but found it was not suspicious.

Pictures sent to the Evening News showed police forensics officers outside the block of flats on Wednesday, with several windows opened on the first floor of the building and one window open on the top floor.

Police also taped off what appears to be a bin area at the front of the flats on Wednesday.
