West Lothian raises roof with building awards duo

TWO West Lothian buildings, Bathgate Partnership Centre and Linlithgow Burgh Halls, have been recognised at the prestigious Edinburgh Architectural Association Awards.

The Building of the Year Award was won by BDP for the Bathgate centre, which was described as bringing together “a disparate collection of community services in a delightful and harmonious interior”. Malcolm Fraser was commended for the redevelopment of Linlithgow Burgh Halls, with the completed building “sympathetically executed, with a well thought out approach”.

A total of 37 entries were submitted this year and 15 shortlisted projects were visited by the judging panel in March.

Awards were made in four categories – Building of the Year, Conservation and Regeneration, Small Project and Ambassador.

A spokeswoman for West Lothian Council said: “It is great news that Bathgate Partnership Centre has been recognised with the Building of the Year Award, and that Linlithgow Burgh Halls has been recognised once again for the sympathetic way the building was redeveloped.”
