Woman, 19, rescued from sea off Kirkcaldy coast and taken to hospital following early morning 999 call

A 19-year-old woman was taken to hospital after being rescued from the sea this morning just off the Kirkcaldy coast.

Police received a report of concern for a person in the water by the promenade sea wall at around 5am on Thursday and notified UK Coastguard which sent three crews from Kinghorn, South Queensferry and Leven.

The RNLI Queensferry, Anstruther and Kinghorn lifeboats were also called along with a coastguard helicopter.

Local residents reported seeing a number of police cars and ambulances in the area.

A coastguard spokesperson said their Leven crew managed to rescue the woman and that she was about knee deep in the water.

A police spokesperson said the woman was taken to Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy for treatment.

Her condition is not yet known but it is not believed to be life threatening.

The coastguard helicopter was sent to the scene but not required after the coastguard crew managed to locate and recover her from the sea.
