Woman freed from pile-up

A WOMAN had to be freed from wreckage following a four-car pile-up.

Firefighters used cutting equipment to release the woman who was in her 50s and may have suffered spinal injuries in the crash at the Leadburn Junction near the boundary of Midlothian and the Borders.

She was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary by ambulance while another casualty in the collision was treated at the scene.

Fire crews from Penicuik and West Linton attended the crash, which took place at around 5.40pm yesterday.
