Woman suffers head injury after being assaulted at her front door

Police are hunting a man who knocked on the door of a home and struck a 63-year-old woman on the head.

The apparently random attack took place in Pinkiehill Crescent, Musselburgh, on Sunday at around 7.50pm.

When the victim answered the door, a man stepped out and struck her to the head and arms with an unknown object, believed to be either a metal pole or pipe.

Investigating officer DC Laura White said: “At this time, there is no clear motive for what has happened. There was no obvious attempt to enter the property and there’s nothing to suggest it has been an attempted break-in.

“The woman suffered a head injury which required medical treatment. Thankfully, she was not seriously injured but she was understandably very shaken as a result.”

Police will be carrying out increased patrols in the area. The suspect is described as white, early 20s, 5ft 5in tall with a slim build, ashen face and short dark cropped hair. He was wearing a grey top and dark trousers.
