Work begins on £1.95m Lothian flats

work has started on a £1.95 million affordable housing development in Prestonpans.

The project at Rollo Court, High Street, will provide 18 new one and two-bedroom flats in a joint venture between Dunedin Canmore Housing Association and East Lothian Council. Half will be for rent by council tenants, with the other half available for shared ownership through Dunedin Canmore.

Dunedin Canmore chief executive Ewan Fraser said: “Demand for housing is exceptionally high in East Lothian and financial pressures are preventing many people from accessing suitable homes.

“These partnership properties will help ease that pressure by assisting people who are keen to rent quality homes at affordable rates and also young people who are keen to get their foot on the property ladder.

“It will be really satisfying when the properties are completed and people are able to move in and enjoy their new homes.”

The homes will be built by local builder R Rollo and Sons, which previously owned the site. They are due for completion next spring.
