Youth club right waived for new base

City chiefs are to waive their right to buy a Crewe Road South youth club site in order to help the club create a new building.

The city council has a right to buy back the site of the FetLor Youth Club, which is estimated to be worth around £400,000.

But officials have proposed waiving that right as the club said that it was proving to be a barrier to its attempts to secure funding for the replacement building.

However, they have proposed that the council includes a series of safeguards in the deal, including that the club grants the council “title conditions” over the site, which will restrict the use of the site to activities associated to a youth club, and the club would also enter into a “service level agreement” where its activities are linked to grant funding.

Councillors will make a final decision on Tuesday.
