OFFENSIVE graffiti was daubed on walls around Tynecastle ahead of yesterday’s derby match.

Hibs “ultras” are suspected of scrawling messages, some relating to current and former Hearts chairs, Ann Budge and Wallace Mercer.

Angry residents reported seeing the paintwork in and around Russell Road.

A police spokeswoman said: “Police in Edinburgh were made aware of graffiti at Tynecastle Stadium, which was discovered on the morning of Sunday 21st January.

“The graffiti was cleaned and no complaint has been made. Anyone who wishes to pass on information about this can contact Police Scotland on 101.”

But officers reported generally good behaviour at the Scottish Cup clash, which finished 1-0 to Hearts.

Chief Inspector Kevin McLean, Match Commander, said: “The majority of fans enjoyed the derby responsibly and I want to thank these supporters for their cooperation with officers and stewards.”
