Domino's creates 'heat boots' built from pizza delivery bag insulation

Delivery giant Domino's has launched 'Heat Boots' - made using the same insulation the company uses to keep its pizzas warm.

With the UK set to experience more freezing temperatures next week with snow and sleet forecast in some areas - a set of boots have been designed to help Brits face the freezing temperatures, with no frostbitten feet to worry about. And with chunky boots a winter wardrobe essential, this latest release from the pizza brand is looking to blend style with practicality.

The multilayer thermal insulation and reflective lining trap warmth, ensuring toes stay oven fresh, even in sub-zero temperatures. Finished with a coating of advanced hydrophobic polymers, the boots offer delivery-grade resilience even in the face of snow and slush.

Izzy Gardener, head of heat innovation at Domino’s, said: “One of the things we pride ourselves on is delivering piping hot pizzas, and that wouldn’t be possible without our Hot Bag technology. After trialling this innovation with the Heat Suit, we decided it was time to take the next step in putting this same technology to the test.”

In creating the boots, the pizza brand took the need for layers, puffers, and extra warmth, and attempted to merge them with full functionality. And they even come with a detachable side pocket designed for an emergency Garlic & Herb Dip.

Although this new form of footwear is currently only undergoing a limited-edition trial, there is potential for it to be rolled out more widely in the future.

The Domino’s Hot Bag technology was first introduced in 1998 to ensure pizza was delivered piping hot to customers’ homes. It’s layered with thermal insulation that keeps pizzas hot, and after its successful suit implementation, it's now being trialled across other areas of apparel.

The quirky boots are the latest in a long line of bizarre innovations from the fast food giant, which has also come up with a pothole-resistant delivery bike, and a robot dog to scare seagulls away from those enjoying a slice on the beach.

Once the cold snap is over, the innovation team at the brand have said they’ll review responses and reactions to the footwear for another potential follow up to the Heat Boot and Heat Suit series.

Izzy Gardener added: “It was really important for us to make sure the Heat Boot is ready for all winter terrains and icy paths. So, we have moulded the boot outsoles with a grippy pizza slice tread design, maximising traction on icy surfaces for the safest frosty outing.”
