One of the biggest shopping days of the year - Amazon Prime Day - is almost upon us. Here’s what you need to know

Retail giant Amazon has announced the dates of Amazon Prime Day 2021, the sales spectacular that is starting to rival Black Friday as one of the most fevered sales events of the year.

What is Amazon Prime Day?

Amazon Prime Day is a sale that the online retailer launches every year, offering big discounts and savings for shoppers across a variety of products.

The sale features a range of deals, from limited time offers only available for a few hours, to 48 hour discounts that are available across the two days of savings.

Amazon Prime Day was first launched in 2015, and has grown massively since then into a two day shopping bonanza.

When is Amazon Prime Day 2021?

It has officially been announced by the online retailer that this year, Amazon Prime Day will take place across Sunday 21 and Monday 22 June.

Usually, Amazon Prime Day would take place in mid-July, but last year it was pushed back to 13 and 14 October because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

What deals will be on offer?

In the announcement from Amazon about the day of deals, it named Levi’s, iRobot, Samsung and Redken as some of the brands that will benefit from deals and discounts.

A number of other big name brands and products were mentioned in the announcement from Amazon, including JBL headphones, Fire TVs, LEGO, Hasbro, Fisher-Price, Le Creuset and Toshiba.

Historically, Apple products have usually been put on offer during the sale days as well, with the likes of iPods and AirPods discounted to cheaper prices.

Additionally, Amazon’s own products, like the Echo Dot and Amazon tablet’s, are likely to be heavily discounted as well.

You can bag the best deals over the course of the two days by looking out for “Lightning Deals” which are deals only available for a few hours at a time, and, if you have an Amazon home device, using Alexa to get early access to major Prime Day deals.

Via the Amazon app, you can set notifications for yourself to be alerted when a discount goes live.

To get the most bang for your buck, you should make sure and check whether a deal that’s offered on Amazon Prime Day is actually the best price for the product - you can use sites such as CamelCamelCamel or Price Spy which can show you the price history of any items sold on Amazon.

Do I need to be an Amazon Prime member to get the deals?

The Amazon Prime discounts are only available to those with Amazon Prime memberships, so if you want to take advantage of the deals that will be on offer, you’ll need to become a Prime member.

You can enjoy 30 days free of Amazon Prime - after that point, you can either cancel your subscription, or sign up for:
