Edinburgh is home to 13 of Scotland’s top 20 most expensive streets, a report has revealed.

However, although it can claim the top two most expensive streets – Northumberland Street and nearby Ann Street, which has an average sales price of £1.2m – the next three places in the top five are located in Aberdeen.

In Edinburgh, Newington’s Hatton Place – a new entrant to the list compiled by Bank of Scotland – is next most expensive, with an average house price of £1m, followed by Brighouse Park Rigg, a new build development in Cramond, at £967,000.

Another new build development, Kinnear Road in Inverleith, was also in the top 20 with an average price of £953,000, followed by Abercromby Place in the New Town at £941,000.

Blair Stewart, partner at Edinburgh-based estate agency Strutt and Parker, said that there was a rise in demand for high-end new build properties, fuelled in part by people moving from period New Town properties to luxury new builds as they get older.

“They are accessible and easy for people to manage.”
