Get set for a career in gaming

The new BSc (Hons) degree in Animation for Games will give you the skills you need to specialise in the visual design of video games, bringing virtual characters and environments to life.

There are more than 2.5bn gamers worldwide, and this course will offer you the chance to learn more about the theory, development and application of the visual and audio assets needed to animate video games to help you prepare for a career in the largest global entertainment industry.

“With continuing technological developments in hardware and software, gaming as a recreational, educational, or therapeutic pursuit continues to grow,” says programme leader John McGowan.

“The course provides the opportunity to develop a portfolio of work, either in a specialist discipline in preparation for a role in a larger organisation, or as a freelancer with a wider and more generalised skill set.”

Want to make festivals your working world?

This year has seen the first students join the new BA (Hons) International Festival & Event Management and Marketing course – and you could be among the first to swell the numbers on this new programme.

You will learn how to plan, design, market, operate and develop events around the globe as well as gaining an understanding of the huge impact they can have on local economies. Plus, with the addition of marketing modules for the first time, you can specialise in international marketing, direct and digital marketing, and social media to help you really stand out in the marketplace.

“There is an emphasis on digital and social media marketing, leading to a wide range of career opportunities,” adds programme leader David Jarman. “Students and graduates can also move into sports, culture, community, business and online events management.”

Get serious about business and other cultures

Not just a first for Edinburgh Napier, the new BA (Hons) Intercultural Business Communication and Marketing / Tourism Management programmes are unique in Scotland, explains programme leader Jane Wilkinson.

“The courses will prepare you for any career where understanding people is a priority. Understanding people means understanding culture, so you will combine the study of business communication with learning about history, society and politics around the world.”

On the BA (Hons) in Intercultural Business Communication and Marketing Management, you will gain a deep understanding of culture and its role in business communications and interactions, from meetings and marketing campaigns to negotiations and team dynamics. This can then be applied to different areas of marketing such as digital analytics, branding and consumer behaviour.

Or you might want to check out the sister course, the BA (Hons) Intercultural Business Communication and Tourism Management, where you can learn about the fascinating role of culture in business communication and develop the ideal skillset for a high-flying career in tourism.

“If you enjoy geography, history or modern studies and want to see how these subjects can help you make a successful career in business, including in marketing or tourism management, then our new programmes are for you,” adds Jane Wilkinson.

Find your place in Scotland’s financial industry

Want to gain a role in one of Scotland’s most important sectors for employment? The well-established BA (Hons) in Financial Services is the only undergraduate course of its kind in Scotland.

With a programme designed to offer you the skills and knowledge needed to get off to a flying start in modern financial services organisations, you can adapt the course to follow your chosen specialism – and there’s even the chance for a six-month pair work placement in the third year.

Keen to kick off a coaching career?

The first of its kind in Scotland, this course offers a path to become a coach – something many of us would love to do but might not know how to get in to.
