Edinburgh’s Hogmanay 2024: All you need to know to see out the old, and bring in the New Year

The city is on a countdown to one of its favourite times of year as a new year dawns.
And Edinburgh will say goodbye to an old year, and welcome in a new one, with the best of celebrations and an unforgettable line up of act and events to turn the capital into party central!
Ready to dance, sing, sparkle and party? Edinburgh’s Hogmanay has an incredible four-day programme of events lined up as 2024 will make way for 2025.
With a mix of free and ticketed events, the phrase ‘there’s something for everyone’ is the perfect choice.
Here’s four days of Hogmanay fun that you mustn’t miss!

Torchlight Procession, Sunday December 29: Up to 20,000 people are expected to light up the city in a procession.
There will be live street theatre, fire performers, and pipe bands in The Meadows before the procession travels through the Old Town, ending with a finale underneath Edinburgh Castle between 8.30pm-9pm.
It is organised by Unique Assembly with Presenting Partner EventScotland, and 4 official charity partners, One City Trust, When You Wish Upon A Star, and local charities working to end homelessness, Social Bite and Simon Community Scotland.


Night Afore Disco, Monday December 30: The time traveling DJ sensation Hot Dub Time Machine will bring his famous ‘dance through the decades’ audio-visual party to West Princes Street Gardens on Monday 30 December, joined by very special guests The Cuban Brothers and Edinburgh funk trio High Fade. This takes place from 5.30pm, and is set against the backdrop of the iconic Edinburgh Castle. Tickets, from £30, are available from this Night Afore Disco link.
Night Afore Concert, Monday December 30: Live music from indie-rock legends Idlewild, who formed in Edinburgh in 1995. They’ll be treating crowds to their much-loved music at Assembly Rooms in 54 George Street, Edinburgh, from 7.30pm. Tickets, from £30, are available from this Night Afore Concert link.


Hogmanay day, Tuesday December 31: The day when the New Year countdown brings the city to life!
Don’t miss out on the hottest gig in town, the Concert in the Gardens, where the headline acts are Texas and special guest Callum Beattie. Beneath the backdrop of Edinburgh Castle these iconic Scottish acts will have you boogying your way into 2025 – tickets are selling fast, don’t miss out.
The world-famous Street Party will commence at 8pm, with Hot Dub Time Machine DJ-ing at the DJ Zone, various bands including Peatbog Faeries and Valtos at the Tartan Zone, plus live music, giant screens, international street theatre, pipers, drummers, funfair attractions, as well as delicious street food and drink throughout the arena.
And there’s bound to be huge fun with a Mega Silent Disco – and you must buy tickets (from £37) separately for that event.

New Year’s Day, January 1: Now welcome the start of a year with First Footin’ – a series of free or ticketed music events across the city and beyond. There are free events in pubs and venues throughout the Old and New Town areas.
Tickets (from £25) are available for Vitamin C Club Night at Portobello Town Hall. There will be non-stop dancing with acts including The Vaselines, Sacred Paws, and a party DJ set from Dave Maclean (Django Django). And over at Leith Arches, there will be a NYD Club Night.
And if that’s not enough to keep you busy this Hogmanay in Edinburgh, then have some family fun time with Sprogmanay on New Year’s Day! Family-friendly events include ceilidhs at the National Museum, Assembly Roxy and Portobello Town Hall.
