Anderson breezes through

From 2-2 in the first set, the Scot won eight legs in a row, needing only ten minutes combined to win the second and third sets. And though Lloyd finally found his range to pull a set back, it was a temporary hold-up as fourth seed Anderson, who had struggled in the earlier rounds, cruised through with a three-dart average of 100.65. Next up for the Scot is Simon Whitlock, who survived a thrilling comeback from Michael van Gerwen to progress with a 4-3 win. Whitlock, who has been nursing a broken ankle through the tournament, led 3-0 before letting his Dutch opponent back in, but he dug deep to win the decider.

Dave Chisnall could not repeat his heroics against Phil Taylor as he slipped to a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Andy Hamilton. Hamilton goes on to play Belgian Kim Huybrechts, who upset ninth seed Paul Nicholson 4-1 this afternoon.

Third seed James Wade was at his best as he powered into the quarter-finals with a 4-0 win over Steve Farmer. Wade now faces Canadian John Part, the 2008 champion, who beat Kevin Painter 4-2.
