Anderson seeks Portobello’s crucial win

Portobello water polo coach Alan Anderson leads his team into British League action this weekend determined to gain the one win needed to maintain their place in the elite group as a stepping stone to possible title glory.

Having beaten defending champions Bristol as well as Rotherham and London-based Penguins in the opening round – their best-ever start – Portobello now head for Lancaster to face the host club and also Manchester.

Anderson says: “The eight team league is due to split shortly with the top five only contesting the title. A win over Lancaster or Manchester should clinch our place although, obviously, we aim to take maximum points.”

Porty have battled through four divisions in ten years to reach the top and part of the current success is due to a thriving youth scheme as well as the timely arrival of two overseas recruits, Macedonian goalkeeper Nojan Donevaski and Italian prospect Danielle de Vechus.
