Bainfield Seniors pick up vital league points against West Lothian

West Lothian were also the victims of Bainfield’s only other success – the Edinburgh club winning their home fixture by three shots in the opening tie of the campaign – and the two clubs currently share the four-point mark with fellow strugglers, Tweedbank and Teviotdale.

Bainfield’s 63-54 win at The Inveralmond Stadium was their first away victory of the campaign. But it had looked to be an unlikely outcome when the master scoreboard displayed West Lothian leading 45-36 after 12 ends played.

It looked a bleak picture for the visitors at that stage as all four of their rinks – skipped by Mike Marshall, Adam Brock, Richard Wilson and Stuart Wilson – were trailing their respective opposition.

Marshall inspired a furious fight-back with a game changing run of 2, 4, 4, 1 that saw the 1994 national singles finalist skip Peter Stewart, Chris Crawford and Bill Little from 10-6 down to a 17-10 victory over David Wilson.

Brock also made a major contribution having led 9-3 then crossed 11-9 before skipping Les Nicholson, Jim Cowan and Tony Abernethy to a 1, 2, (2), 5 finish that clinched a 17-13 win over John Black.

Richard Wilson only scored at five of the 17 ends but counts of 2, 4, 5, and a 4, 1 finish enabled him to skip Charlie Watt, Bill Herd and Walter Borthwick to a 16-16 peel with Bob Mackay.

Stuart Wilson and his front-three of Malcolm Cook, Bob Henderson and Ian Pilley failed to peg back George Marshall but contributed to the general fight back with a 2, 1, 1 finish in a 15-13 defeat.

East Lothian’s substantial 24 shot (78-64) away win over Teviotdale was their sixth in seven and they sit top of the table with a two-point advantage over Midlothian – a game in hand – and Balbardie.

Balbardie beat Tweedbank, 74-50, at Bathgate.
