Boroughmuir Blaze bid to keep Fury in sight by weathering Storm

Fury’s 77-57 midweek away win over Dunfermline Reign has thrown down the gauntlet to previous joint leaders Boroughmuir Blaze and Glasgow University, who only trail as they have played 12 games to Fury’s 13 and one or both could overtake Falkirk again tomorrow.

Blaze, nine times league winners last century, are in with a strong chance of winning their first title since 1978 and ironically will be looking to the Glasgow students to do them a favour by beating Fury when they host them at the Stevenson Building in Glasgow tomorrow at 3.30pm.

But in this fascinating “dog eat dog” title race Blaze, who like GU have only lost twice, must first take care of business by beating Glasgow Storm at Scotstoun tomorrow (1.30pm).

Highlight of that clash could be the head-to-head between Blaze captain Eoghann Dover and Storm shooting guard Kyle Haldane. But after they were blown away by St Mirren 111-71 in Paisley last weekend, Storm will be eager to get back on course.

Even though they beat Edinburgh Kings at home last Sunday, Edinburgh Uni may rue their loss to Fury last Friday night, their fourth of the campaign, as it may cost them the title and leave them concentrating on the race for the Play-Off places and of course the Scottish Cup final which they will contest with St Mirren at the Lagoon Centre in Paisley a week tomorrow.

In the women’s league, Capital trio Edinburgh Kool Kats, Boroughmuir Blaze and Edinburgh University are all in action this weekend with EU at home to St Mirren at the Pleasance tomorrow (2.50pm) and away to Tayside Musketeers at Grove Academy on Sunday (3.20pm).

Blaze are away to Glasgow Rocks at Cumbernauld (11.20am) and Kats are away to Colliers (3.20pm).
