Bowls: Foster makes it through

Paul FOSTER joined David Gourlay in today’s quarter- finals of the Co-operative Funeralcare Scottish International Open at the Dewar’s Centre in Perth but Stewart Anderson failed to boost the Scottish challenge to three as he bowed out in a replay of last year’s title decider to defending champion Mervyn King from Norfolk.

Foster was the first in action against Lincoln’s Billy Jackson and he pulled away over the closing stages with a 1, 2, 1 and 2 to win 8-3 after sharing the first set 9-9.

Anderson went down in straight sets 13-3, 10-5 to King.

Today’s quarter-finals see Gourlay against Greg Harlow while Foster will play Robert Weale. All-English affairs have Simon Skelton take on Robert Paxton and King face Ian Bond.
