Bowls: Midlothian ladies eye another Scottish Cup final

Holders Midlothian take on fellow Premier League outfit Arbroath in the semi-finals of the Ladies Scottish Cup at East Fife tomorrow.

The Dalkeith-based outfit will be viewed as underdogs as their opponents finished top of their Premier League section and performed well despite their 12-shot defeat by Auchinleck in the recent play-off final for the title.

Meanwhile, Midlothian’s Margaret Peacock and Margaret Porter have captured the Scottish Seniors Pairs crown.

Porter skipped her lead to an 18-7 win over Fraserburgh in the semi-finals at Prestwick IBC then pressed on from 10-7 up in the final to beat Jane Campbell and Helen Dobson of Paisley 15-7.

East Lothian’s Jim Robertson and Willie Wood MBE reached the final of the gents pairs with a 18-8 win over Forfar but lost 20-12 to Falkirk in the final.

Bainfield gents trio Adam Brok, Mike Sutherland and Stuart Wilson made a 20-9 semi-final exit to eventual title winners Auchinleck.
