Boxing: Benson beats class acts on way to title

LOCHEND’S Lewis Benson beat both reigning Scottish champion James Thomson of the 1314 Club and Craigmillar’s former Scottish 64kg kingpin Jason Easton to grab the Eastern light-welterweight boxing title at Bowhill, Fife.

Meadowbank lightweight Lewis Paulin, meanwhile, caused a massive upset by defeating Zetland’s Bryce Stewart to win his very first district title.

Holyrood’s Brian Forsyth, whose power punching had earlier eliminated Kelty’s Mark Docherty with a second-round stoppage, beat 1314 Club’s James Williamson in the 81kg final to become light-heavyweight champion.
