Boxing: Swanney whistles up his hunger for a fight return on impressive bill

THERE are many intriguing match-ups on the bill as East Lothian amateur boxing club boss Hamish Colgan and his team stage their popular annual winter show in Haddington’s Corn Exchange tomorrow.

Craigmillar club coach Kenny McCartney is excited about the ring comeback of Sean Swanney, who clashes with East Lothian featherweight opponent Martin Buist in one of the 14 bouts. “Sean Swanney has been away from boxing for over a year but now he has got his old hunger for victory back. Given how good Martin Buist is, it should be some scrap,” said McCartney.

At welterweight, Keith Colgan, a recent losing finalist at the Scottish Novices Championship, faces Leith Victoria’s Gregorz Kosrak.

Craigmillar light-welterweight Yalcin Genk and East Lothian’s Cameron McFadyen were so impressive in a recent non-scoring exhibition that they have been matched to do it all for real on Sunday’s show.

Meanwhile, Leith Victoria lightweight Sean White faces Hillpark’s Gary Hamilton in his last fight before he focuses on his law degree finals.

Clovenstone novice welterweight Stephen Slann has a debut clash with East Lothian puncher Lee Renton. “Stephen is a very strong boy who can dish it out as well take it,” said coach Rab McEwan.
