Now Arthur plans glittering Garys grudge showdown

After their successful first boxing show at Meadowbank last week Alex Arthur and his co-promoter Grant Jeans are poised to feature a return bout between bitter Edinburgh rivals Gary McMillan and Gary Young over ten rounds for Gilmerton champion Young’s Scottish 10st 7lb crown on their next promotion, which they plan to stage in the very near future at the Capital venue.

The two boxers have had an ongoing feud since Young defeated McMillan by a controversial points verdict, which saw Young triumph by a single point over his former Portobello and Gilmerton amateur clubmate, McMillan, in Glasgow in 2009.

McMillan still feels riled by that bout. “There was no way that I lost to Young that night for the Scottish title in Glasgow,” he said, “and since then Young has turned down two offers of a rematch by my manager Alex Morrison, so I’ll jump at the chance to fight him again for his title.”

Feelings are still running high in the McMillan camp too after it was revealed that Young had given McMillan’s Paisley opponent, Kevin McIntyre, tactical ring advice which helped McIntyre outpoint McMillan by a single point last weekend at Meadowbank.

Arthur’s co-promoter Grant Jeans, who also represents Gary Young, confirmed: “Alex Arthur and I definitely plan to stage the McMillan v Young Scottish welterweight return title clash at Meadowbank. This fight belongs in the Capital and it will be a huge attraction for local boxing fans.”

Jeans also aims to match Arthur with his “first-choice opponent” from Poland, Krysztof Szot and that there would also be spots on their next promotion for Kenny Anderson, Jason Hastie and John McCallum.
