The fellow 15-year-olds were team-mates in the Stephen Gallacher Foundation quartet that lost to eventual winners Carrickvale in the 117th Dispatch Trophy.

Now they meet in the first round of the under-16s event in the Lothians Boys Championship.

Dunbar’s Wilson carded a 74 and Gallagher, from Longniddry, had a 77 in Sunday’s 18-hole qualifier for the Golf Fit-sponsored event.

Another East Lothian player, Lewis Reid from Craigielaw, claimed the silverware up for grabs in that.

His name will go on the Lindsay Trophy after he pipped Dunbar’s Jamie Duguid by virtue of a better last six holes – 20 against 22 – in matching 70s.

Reid’s first-round opponent in the under-18s match-play phase is Finlay Goodlad while Duguid is up against Bathgate’s Ross Callan, last year’s Scottish Boys runner-up.
