Bradley Forbes-Cryans runner-up at the slalom World Cup Finals

Roslin canoeist Bradley Forbes-Cryans came of age with a sensational runner-up finish at the slalom World Cup Finals in Tacen, Slovenia, while Edinburgh student Eilidh Gibson also rediscovered her best form.

Twenty-one-year-old Forbes-Cryans reached his first major K1 kayak final in Italy in June but had struggled since then before everything suddenly clicked in Tacen.

The Forth Canoe Club star produced a flawless run in 70.17 seconds to cross the line just 0.28secs slower than home favourite Peter Kauzer.

“What do I say? I’m speechless!” he admitted. “I can’t believe I’ve managed to end my season on such a high: second today and a top three finish in the overall 2016 World Cup standings. Thank you to anyone who has ever supported me!”

Gibson began the summer with fourth place and a team gold at the European Championships in May, and she recaptured that missing speed in Tacen, coming home fifth in the C1 final. British paddlers dominated, filling four of the top-six places with Kim Woods grabbing gold.

Crieff’s Fiona Pennie completed a memorable weekend for Scottish canoeists by taking bronze in the K1 class.
