Callum hopes Friday will be good for him

British sprint champion Callum Skinner headed up a posse of Capital cyclists who were set to take to the track for the Good Friday Meeting at Herne Hill Velodrome in London this afternoon, writes COLIN RENTON.

The City of Edinburgh rider spent last week at a training camp in Majorca and was looking to assess his early season form against high-class international opposition.

Among the others making the trip south were his team-mates John Paul – the current Scottish champion – Kenny Ayre and Callum Watson.

Also listed to ride are Skinner’s fellow British Cycling Academy rider Kian Emadi, world and Paralympic gold medallist Jody Cundy and a clutch of top European ­competitors including Robert Foerstemann of ­Germany.

Another rider from the city, Evan Oliphant, of Team Raleigh, who is targeting both road and track at next year’s Commonwealth Games, was looking to test himself in the endurance events.

Meanwhile, rising star Katy Archibald was due to face up to a strong entry from around Britain for the women’s events.
