Callum Skinner racing for medals and Olympic points in Hong Kong

Capital cyclist Callum Skinner will resume his chase for Olympic qualifying points when he lines up for Great Britain at this weekend's concluding leg of the UCI World Cup in Hong Kong.

The 23-year-old, one of seven GB sprinters making the trip, missed the first round of the competition but featured in the team sprint in the second round, taking fourth place in New Zealand.

Skinner has struck gold in the competition before and looks set to link up with Olympic gold medallists Jason Kenny and Philip Hindes for the qualifying round of the team sprint which takes place today; the medals will be decided tomorrow.

Among the endurance riders in the squad is road star Mark Cavendish, but an absentee from the women’s squad is former City of Edinburgh rider Katie Archibald who faces a race against time to be fit for the World Championships in London in March.

The 21-year-old ruptured a knee ligament and broke her elbow when she crashed in training. However, Archibald will not rush her comeback if she feels it will jeopardise her chances of securing a place at this summer’s Olympics.
