Cameron Tindle's qualifying time may be disqualified

But he is still not sure if he will get a run in the 200 metres at the World Junior Championships in Poland later this month.

The 18-year-old Edinburgh AC star, who is the Scottish senior champion, appeared to clinch his place when he clocked a sizzling 20.82 seconds, a new personal best, competing for GB Juniors in a meeting in Mannheim, Germany last Sunday.

But then doubt was cast on the authenticity of the time as the wind gauge had malfunctioned, though a wind speed well within the legal limit of 2.0mps was announced and British observers at the meeting insisted there was no significant wind.

Already guaranteed a place in the team as part of the relay quartet, Tindle may not hear final confirmation of his selection until a week on Monday.

Tonight, despite being off scratch, the former New Year Sprint winner hopes to boost his training fund by capturing the £3000 first prize for another 110 metres handicap, which has attracted a big entry of 12 heats.

A quality field includes 2014 Commonwealth Games relay runner Grant Plenderleith (Falkirk) and Hawick’s Dylan Ali, the New Year winner two years ago, both off 2.5m, the 2012 double Scottish champion Tom Holligan (Edinburgh), off 3m and Jamie Doris, the son of former Scottish 100m champion Alan Doris, off 5m.

Off scratch last year, Tindle finished well back in the final which was won by Craig Knowles (Corstorphine), who is back this time with a start of six metres.

“Cameron’s in much better shape this time – he’ll go close,” said his coach Bruce Scott.
