Capitals sign veteran Russian forward Yevgeni Fyodorov

Edinburgh Capitals player-coach Michal Dobron today hailed the signing of vastly-experienced Russian forward Yevgeni Fyodorov as further proof the club are attracting 'high-calibre players' to Murrayfield ahead of the new ice hockey season which starts in September

The 35-year-old centre has 19 years experience of professional hockey in Russia, including over 300 appearances in the Continental Hockey League (KHL). He further bolsters a Caps squad which has recently acquired the likes of fellow Russian Pavel Vorobyov and Canadian winger Jared Staal, both of whom have graced the National Hockey League.

Dobron said: “We were offered Fyodorov and took time to research him as a player and a person and we agreed he sounded like a great addition. His experience in one of the top leagues in the world means he is another player who has the ability to make a big impact with the Capitals. He will fit in well with what we are building at the club, and having Vorobyov already can only help. We are attracting players of a high calibre, and this is another hugely important signing for us. Our fans should be getting excited and looking forward to the season. I cant wait to get started.”

Fyodorov, who despite never breaking in to the full Russian national team did represent his country at Under-20 level, becomes Edinburgh’s 12th import signing of the summer, leaving the club with only two more full-time foreign professional players to recruit ahead of a pre-season home and away challenge with Dundee Stars on September 3-4.
