Chris O'Hare wins the Hoka Mile in Long Island

The 27-year-old Edinburgh star, who ended the track season empty-handed, won the celebrated race on Long Island in 3:55.52. And it was almost a Scottish one-two with Neil Gourley nudged into third place by Canada’s Charles Philibert-Thiboutot.

Both O’Hare and Gourley will stay in NYC to end their seasons in Sunday’s New York Mile.

Meanwhile, Eilidh Doyle has vowed to make athletes voices heard after agreeing to join the board of Scottish Athletics. The Olympic medallist, 31, has been appointed as she prepares to relocate to Cumbernauld following almost a decade based in Bath.

“I want to add my knowledge and experience of top global competition to what is already a wide range of people deeply connected to the sport in various roles,” said Doyle, who has 13 major championship medals from her career following her recent European bronze.

“I feel it’s important to have involvement in what is going on with the sport as a whole. As athletes we tend to be purely involved in our own development and progress but I really want to see the sport flourish, too.”
