A thrilling final against Murrayfield finished 3-3 at the Merchants, where the two teams were also level – 5-5 – in terms of holes up in matches. That meant a sudden-death play-off, in which Hall prevailled after his opponent lost a ball at the second extra hole.

“This is the club’s first win in the event since 1985, when we retained the title, so we are all very proud of the players,” said junior convenor Mary Richardson.

Danny Hendry, Cameron Ledingham and Lucy Morrison all won their matches on the day, when, in addition to Hall, the team also included Mark Brooks and Alessio Margiotta.
