Cricket: Teuchters close in on title

Guided by a cricketer with previous experience of batting in the Warwickshire nets, Teuchters cricket club stand on the brink of a first-ever title this weekend.

The Capital team take on RH Corstorphine 3rds at Leith’s Academy Park knowing a win will secure the East League division seven crown.

Vice-captain Eddie Jones, who moved to the Capital from Warwickshire, says fortunes improved significantly when fate played a hand in the recruitment of all-rounder Mark Newberry. “We were playing early on in the season at the Meadows when Mark wandered up and asked to join. Had we been fielding rather than batting he’d have joined the opposition.

“Also, Kieran O’Shaughnessy aggregated 22 runs throughout last season but has turned things around by making more than 200 so far.”

Elsewhere Musselburgh can take the Division Two title by winning away to Kismet while Dalgety Bay need to win at home to Preston Village 2nd to claim Division 9.
