Curling: Campbell curls up in Perth

Edinburgh curler Colin Campbell failed to last the distance at the Perth Masters, writes LORIN McDOUGALL.

Campbell was part of David Edwards’ Aberdeen rink, which went unbeaten on Thursday and Friday, claiming two victories over Sweden’s newly-crowned European champion Niklas Edin, but Saturday’s narrow 4-3 defeat to eventual winner Thomas Ulsrud and back-to-back losses to ex-world champion Ewan MacDonald and Moscow’s Alex Tselousov ended their campaign before the quarter-finals. Edinburgh’s Ross Hepburn suffered the same fate playing “lead” for Perth veteran Warwick Smith, defeats to Canadian Brad Gushue and Dumfries skip Grant Hardie sending them out.

Ulsrud enjoyed a 7-2
victory over Canadian Mike McEwen in the final.
