Curling: Campbell’s hopes fade

Murrayfield’s Colin Campbell and his team face an uphill battle to represent Scotland at December’s European Championships following back-to-back play-off defeats in Perth yesterday.

Campbell, John Penny, Scott MacLeod and skip David Edwards led world silver medallist Tom Brewster 4-3 going to the final end, but the Scottish champion went on to win 5-4.

They were then crushed 7-1 by Lockerbie’s double world champion David Murdoch who wrapped up victory with three ends to spare.

Campbell and company were aiming to beat Forfar’s Sandy Reid in today’s match to keep alive their faint hopes of making it to Moscow.
