Curling: Capital curler Campbell in successive wins

Capital curler Colin Campbell got off to a dream start with two wins out of two at the Scottish Championship Finals in Perth yesterday.

Campbell and Aberdeen skip David Edwards topped this season’s Scottish Tour rankings, and they overturned an early two-stone deficit to beat Neil Joss (Greenacres) 8-5 in their opening round-robin match. They returned to the Dewars Centre last night to thrash Ross McCleary’s Kinross team 11-3 after counting five stones at the first end.

Edinburgh’s Ross Hepburn helped Perth veteran Warwick Smith to a 6-5 extra-end
victory over Dumfries junior Grant Hardie, but there were opening defeats yesterday for Murrayfield’s Kerry Barr and Gina Aitken.

Barr trailed world junior champion Hannah Fleming 5-2 but then led 8-5 before
eventually losing 10-9. Aitken was beaten 9-3 by ex-world champion Jackie Lockhart.
