Curling: Gina Aitken bows out in last eight at Aberdeen

Murrayfield curler Gina Aitken was defeated by an Englishman with a Scottish name in the Aberdeen City Open quarter-finals.

The world junior silver medallist played confidently all weekend, winning three group matches and losing just one to triple world champion Ewan MacDonald, but there is never any room for error in the knockout stages.

English skip Alan MacDougall led 2-0 early on and, although Aitken reduced the deficit to a single stone, MacDougall counted a two at the seventh end to go through 5-2.
