Curling: Locals get brush-off

Capital curlers Ross Hepburn and Colin Campbell threatened to pull off a home victory at the Edinburgh International but both fell short at Murrayfield Ice Rink.

Hepburn delivered the opening stones for David Smith’s Perth rink which lost 4-2 in the semis to Aberdeen’s Tom Brewster who later pipped Sandy Reid in the final.

Campbell also played ‘lead’ for Aberdeen skip David Edwards who won all five of his round robin ties but then went down 5-4 to Stirling’s Logan Gray in yesterday’s quarter-finals.

Murrayfield skips Paul Stevenson and John Hamilton had a wretched tournament, losing all nine of their group matches.
