Edinburgh curler Bruce Mouat maintained his perfect 100 per cent record at the Scottish Junior Championships in Aberdeen yesterday, but his Murrayfield club-mate Karina Aitken suffered her first defeat in the girls' competition.

Mouat continued his strong title defence as he made it three round-robin wins out of three with a 9-3 victory over Cameron McNay, although it took a five at the seventh end to finally break the Lockerbie player’s resistance.

Aitken was always struggling against Forfar’s Lesley Young and trailed 4-1 early on before levelling at 4-4. Young then found another gear, counting twos at the seventh and ninth ends to prevail 8-5. The winners of Sunday afternoon’s finals will now go to Copenhagen for the World Junior Championships in March after the Danish capital was chosen on Wednesday to replace the original host city of Erzurum in Turkey.
