Cycling: Croall can capture sixth track title

Croall has a sizeable lead over his nearest challenger Dave Martin (Bicycleworks) and even a modest points haul tonight would be enough complete the job. Success would give Croall two reasons to celebrate, having also just learned that he has been named joint Scottish sprint champion together with his City of Edinburgh team-mate Callum Skinner.

The duo were set to contest the final at the championships earlier this month when heavy rain brought racing to a premature end. No suitable date could be found to stage the gold medal decider so the title will be shared.

The women’s pursuit was decided on qualifying times, meaning that City of Edinburgh duo Kayleigh Brogan and Louise Haston take gold and silver.

Several titles will not be awarded, with the senior men’s pursuit, Keirin and team sprint events among those that have been scrapped, while the women’s Keirin will be contested next Tuesday at Meadowbank, and several youth championships are on the programme for next month’s Caird Park Autumn Meeting in Dundee.
