Cycling: Croall on a roll to make it six in a row

Capital cyclist Bruce Croall (City of Edinburgh) turned on the style to seal a sixth successive DHL Meadowbank National Track League title last night.

The British kilometre time trial champion held a substantial advantage at the top of the table going into the penultimate round of the campaign and he ensured the league trophy, which bears the name of his great uncle, Andy Graham, would remain in the family for another year when he powered to wins in the 15-lap scratch and sprint handicap events.

However, while Croall clinched overall success, the round’s top-scorer was league runner-up David Martin (Bicycleworks), who had wins in the Devil Take the Hindmost and 35-lap scratch events, as well as a third-place finish in the 15-lap scratch.

Ayrton Pellet (Edinburgh RC) sealed overall victory in the junior league and clubmate Jacob Littlejohn celebrated becoming youths champion.

The women’s title will go to the final week when Emma Baird (City of Edinburgh) moved closer to current leader Charline Joiner.
