David Drysdale forced to settle for joint ninth in Hamburg

David Drysdale's hopes of landing a maiden European Tour victory at the 458th attempt were dashed by a disappointing last nine holes in Germany.

The Cockburnspath-based player was just one shot off the lead in the Porsche European Open after going out in two-under-par 34 in the final round.

But, after seeing his momentum halted by a bogey at the tenth, he also dropped shots at the 14th and 16th to come home in 41. In closing with a 73 for a seven-under-par total Drysdale ended up having to settle for a share of ninth spot behind Englishman Richard McEvoy in Hamburg.

The upside for the former Dunbar assistant pro was that his first top-10 finish in a stroke-play event this season has seen him climb to 116th in the Race to Dubai.

Elsewhere, Turnhouse-attached Duncan Stewart finished just outside the top 10 in the Euram Bank Open, a Challenge Tour event in Austria.

Stewart closed with a 66 for an 11-under total, sharing 11th spot in an event won by Dutchman Darius Van Driel.

With a closing 67, Van Driel finished a shot ahead of Aberdonian David Law, winner of the Scottish Challenge last month and now up to fifth in the Road to Ras Al Khaimah rankings.
