Dick feels Inverleith deserved more

Stephen Dick was a disappointed man as he left Peffermill on Saturday despite bottom club Inverleith earning a valuable point against Edinburgh University in their bid to beat the drop from hockey's Division One.

Dick felt his team-mates dominated their clash with his old club.

John Martin put the visitors 1-0 ahead in the first-half but Uni’s Alan Oldham netted the leveller in the second.

Both sides had chances to claim the winner but Dick said: “Edinburgh are fifth in the table and we dominated much of that game. We need to be able to shut out games and our game-management has to be sharper.

“However, we’re building bit by bit and our aim is to keep ourselves in this league.

We earned one more point than we started with but we wanted more. However, there are a lot more points to play for and we are improving as a squad.”

On Tayside, Gavin Byers and Paul Martin scored for Grove Menzieshill in the first minute of each half in their battle against league leaders Grange. However, Frank Ryan sparked Grange into life with a goal six minutes from time and the Edinburgh side levelled with the last touch of the contest when captain Cameron Fraser fired home for a share of the points.

Bromac Kelburne edged Clydesdale 2-1 win with goals from Ben Peterson and Gary Maitles.

Hat-tricks by Brad Hughes and Steven Percy handed second bottom Uddingston a 6-3 at Western Wildcats.

Meanwhile, coach Sam Judge was pleased to have taken three points but felt her Edinburgh University squad made it hard for themselves in a 2-1 win over city rivals Watsonians. Caitlin Girdwood scored both their goals.

Grove Menzieshill remain in second spot thanks to a Jude McMullan strike which was enough to see off Grange.
